Day One: Arrival in Kigali – City Tour
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. If time allows, enjoy a short city tour including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, or the Kandt House Museum. Settle in for dinner and overnight at a comfortable city lodge.
Day Two: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, depart Kigali and head north to Volcanoes National Park, a scenic 2.5-hour drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills and terraced farms. Along the way, enjoy views of the Virunga volcanoes and local communities. Check into your lodge near the park and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. Optional activities include a cultural village visit or a nature walk. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day Three: Gorilla Tracking Experience
After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla tracking. You’ll be assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families and head into the forest with a team of trackers and a guide. The trek can last from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location.
Once you find them, enjoy a magical one-hour encounter with the gorillas, watching them feed, rest, and care for their young. After the trek, return to the lodge to relax and reflect on this extraordinary wildlife experience.
Day Four: Golden Monkey Tracking & Cultural Visit
Today, return to the park for golden monkey tracking—a shorter and easier trek through the bamboo zone. These energetic primates are endemic to the Virunga region and are known for their playful behaviour and striking golden-orange coats.
In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Rwandan traditions, music, dance, and the role of conservation in the community. Return to the lodge for dinner and your final night near the park.
Day Five: Return to Kigali – Departure
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before driving back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, visit local souvenir shops or enjoy lunch in town. Your guide will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of a memorable primate safari in Rwanda.
