Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda’s smallest savannah park, but one of the most charming and accessible from Kampala. This short getaway is perfect for travellers seeking a taste of wildlife, beautiful landscapes, and tranquillity in a limited timeframe. The park boasts unique attractions, including zebras, impalas, elands, giraffes, and over 350 bird species, alongside stunning acacia woodland and a serene lake that invites boat and walking safaris.

Day One: Travel to Lake Mburo & Boat Safari

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up at 6:30 AM from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Set out for a scenic 4-hour drive westwards to Lake Mburo National Park via the Equator crossing, where you can stop for memorable photos and a brief science demonstration. Continue through the rolling hills of Uganda’s countryside, arriving at the park in time for lunch at your lodge.

In the afternoon, embark on a tranquil boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This activity offers a chance to spot hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, and a wide variety of water birds, including African fish eagles, malachite kingfishers, and cormorants. The boat ride also allows stunning views of the surrounding savannah landscape.

After the boat safari, return to your lodge for relaxation. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at your selected lodge (on full board basis).

Day Two: Walking Safari & Return to Kampala

Wake up early to the sounds of nature and enjoy a guided walking safari through the park. Lake Mburo is one of the few parks in Uganda where walking safaris are allowed, offering a unique opportunity to observe wildlife on foot. Accompanied by a ranger guide, you may encounter zebras, giraffes, impalas, topis, elands, and warthogs in their natural habitat. The walk also provides insights into the park’s ecology and flora.

After breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to Kampala. You’ll enjoy lunch en route and arrive in the late afternoon, marking the end of your 2-day wilderness escape.
